Irwin, Donaghey, Stockman Accountants Honoured Arts & Business, the national charity dedicated to creating sustainable relationships between business and the arts presented an EDF Energy Arts and Kids Award in association with The Prince of Wales Arts and Kids Foundation Award to Irwin, Donaghey, Stockman Accountants (Coleraine) and Big Telly Theatre Company (Portstewart). The 29th Arts & Business Awards, presented on 8th March 2007 at The Hayward Gallery in London, celebrated the best relationships between cultural and commercial organisations. The collaboration saw IDS link with the Big Telly theatre company to create an innovative educational programme linking theatre, art and mathematics. When Big Telly toured The Picture of Dorian Grey, it worked with its accountants IDS to create an innovative educational programme linking theatre, art and mathematics. Students completed ‘painting by numbers’ portraits of Dorian Grey by solving mathematical problems to determine which numbers related to which colours. Wrong answers led to very different portraits! The project encouraged young people to consider accountancy as a career choice. The awards were presented at a ceremony at The Hayward Gallery in London on 8th March 2007. Alice O’Rawe, Regional Director, Arts and Business Northern Ireland said: In the past 10 years there has been a golden age in the way in which we project this country through arts and culture. This is an important part of making this city, its economy and society successful for the future. The role of the private sector in delivering this golden age must never be neglected or underestimated. The work of business in inspiring and showing the way for the cultural sector is a force for good.
